How we check the numbers
Plug Count is an independent reference for how much power appliances use and what it takes to run them on a generator or battery. Every figure comes from a government, ENERGY STAR or manufacturer source, linked on the page.
How we check
- We collect running watts, starting watts and energy use from the US Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, the EIA, utilities and manufacturer spec sheets and generator wattage charts.
- Appliances vary, so we publish a typical figure and a low-to-high range, and say how we got there. Where sources disagree we use the more cautious number.
- Where a figure isn't published we say so, or mark it as an estimate.
- Each guide is checked against its sources by a second reviewer before it goes live, and we re-check the data regularly.
Independence and money
We aren't affiliated with any appliance, generator or power station maker. We earn money from ads and labeled affiliate links; that never changes a number.
What we don't do
We don't give electrical, medical or legal advice. Transfer switches and interlocks must be installed by a licensed electrician. Never run a generator indoors.
